Kidney Angels began with a son's extraordinary gift.
More than 34 years ago, in 1992, our founder, Eugene, made the life-changing decision to donate his kidney to his mother. At the time, living unrelated kidney donation was still uncommon, and Eugene was 1 of just 2,535 people who became living organ donors that year.
While living donation has grown dramatically since 1992, the need for kidneys has grown even faster. Today, more than 95,000 people in the United States are waiting for a kidney transplant, representing nearly 87% of everyone waiting for an organ transplant nationwide.
That growing need is why Kidney Angels exists. We are a welcoming nonprofit dedicated to supporting living kidney donors, transplant recipients, caregivers, and families. Through trusted, compassionate guidance and a community built on lived experience, we strive to ensure that no one has to face the kidney donation journey alone.
