Brandon’s Story:
A Father Fighting for More Time
Brandon is living with polycystic kidney disease, a condition that has affected multiple generations of his family. His father and grandfather both had the disease and received kidney transplants. Today, Brandon and several of his brothers are also living with the condition. As his kidney function declines, Brandon is getting closer to needing dialysis. Peritoneal dialysis could require treatment at home for more than 10 hours a day, creating significant changes to his daily life. Already experiencing low energy and fatigue, Brandon is concerned about how dialysis will affect his ability to continue being present for the people and activities he loves.
One of the most important parts of Brandon's life is being a father to his 15-year-old daughter, Layla. He received custody of Layla when she was 11, and she has adjusted beautifully to life in Beachwood, Ohio. She is a good student, a cheerleader, and active in drama club—someone Brandon is incredibly proud of. He hopes to be there for all of the milestones still ahead, from watching her graduate to seeing her build a life of her own. Brandon also enjoys music, hiking, traveling with his girlfriend, Alexyss, following sports and current events, and spending time with his dog, Dolly. A kidney transplant could give Brandon more time and energy for the life and people he loves.
